You need to be physically fit and have an experience of long trekkings in the mountains. We are supposed to walk uphill for at least 5 hours during this program.
About program
Ala Archa is one of the most stunning and accessible destinations in Kyrgyzstan. This breathtaking mountain valley, located just outside Bishkek, features towering peaks reaching up to 4,875 meters.
This adventure is a perfect opportunity to see glaciers, snow-capped mountain peaks, and alpine lakes, and to summit one of the highest peaks in the area without requiring any technical climbing skills.
When to Go
Ala Archa is accessible year-round, but reaching the summit in winter is much more challenging than in summer. From October to April, significant amount of snow can be expected along the route. During the winter months, conditions can also be extremely cold and windy. Being mentally prepared for harsh conditions and having the right equipment is crucial.
In summer, the route is generally much easier. There is usually no snow on the trail, and temperatures and weather conditions are considerably more pleasant.

Start in a forest of ancient Tian Shan spruce trees and finish among snow-covered peaks—a stunning contrast of landscapes.

Who Is This Trek For?
This route is designed for experienced trekkers who want to see spectacular high-altitude scenery while still enjoying some comforts along the way. During the trek, we will spend nights in a mountain hut and enjoy meals prepared by the cook at Ratsek Hut. If you’re looking for a more remote wilderness experience, check out our 5-Day Almaty Circuit Trek.
We will be spending time at high elevations (Ratsek Hut is at 3,400 m and Uchitel Peak reaches 4,500 m), so previous experience with high-altitude trekking is highly recommended.
You should also be in good physical condition, as we will gain approximately 1,000 m of elevation in a single day.
What Should You Expect on the Trail?
Altitude & Acclimatization
Our accommodation is already located at a significant altitude. Listen to your body, stay hydrated, and keep your guide informed about how you’re feeling. You may experience mild symptoms such as headaches or loss of appetite, but it is important to continue eating and staying active. Don’t hesitate to take appropriate medication if you develop a headache.
The summit of Uchitel Peak is even higher. Avoid pushing yourself too hard; maintaining a slow and steady pace is the best strategy. Take your time and conserve your energy.
Trail Conditions
Expect rocky mountain trails, steep slopes, loose scree, and changing seasonal conditions. Snow patches may still be present at higher elevations early or late in the summer season. The final ascent to Uchitel Peak follows a scree slope. Good hiking boots (B-category) and trekking poles are strongly recommended.
Weather
Even in summer, temperatures can drop rapidly at night and on exposed ridges. Be prepared for highly variable mountain weather, including warm sunshine, cold winds, and rain.
