About program
Discover the hidden backcountry gem east of Karakol town, Jyrgalan village. It used to be one of the largest coal-mining centers in Kyrgyzstan during Soviet era. Like many other industrial centers of the Soviet Union, this village came to desolation after the collapse of the USSR. But it was reinvented by local outdoor enthusiasts as a ski-touring destination about 15 years ago. Despite a reasonable amount of tourists who come to the village every year, the place stays calm, cozy and authentic. Nestled in the heart of the Tien Shan mountains, Jyrgalan offers some of the most reliable powder and diverse terrain in Central Asia—without the crowds.
Location:
Jyrgalan village based 70km East from Karakol, Eastern part of Terskey Alatau mountain ridge, on 2250 meters above sea level surrounded by mountains up to 3500 meters. This is a relatively new ski destination and not that touristy yet. This gives a good opportunity to explore the area off the beaten tracks. Kyrgyzstan is pretty accessible and open for foreign travelers. It’s VISA-free for most of the countries. You can easily get there from both airports of Almaty and Bishkek. We provide transfers from both cities. It usually takes 7-8 hours by picturesque roads from both airports with sightseeing stop on the way.
