About program

Alpine Climbing on Bogdanovich Glacier

Bogdanovich Glacier is the closest frozen expanse to the city. Reaching it is easy—you just need to take a gondola to Talgarsky Pass and then trek for 3–4 hours. Nestled at the base of one of the most spectacular summits in the Small Almaty Gorge, Almaty Peak (also known as Komsomol and Nursultan), this area offers stunning alpine scenery.

On this tour, we’ll spend two incredible days exploring the glacial terrain and ascending two mountains—Fizkulturnik and Almaty.

The route to Fizkulturnik (4,068 m) is a straightforward trek, perfect for enjoying panoramic views and acclimatizing before tackling a more technical ascent.

Almaty Peak (4,376 m) offers a range of routes, from beginner-friendly options with short scrambling sections to more demanding ones featuring up to eight pitches of rock climbing. For this program we'll choose the easiest route by default. If you want to do something more challenging, we can discuss it and adjust the program accordingly.

Alternatively, we can opt for Karly Tau (4,170 m) instead of any of planned mountains.

When to Go?

The climbing season runs from June to September, when temperatures are warm enough for tent camping and the ice fields are relatively snow-free.

Program Overview

Day 1: Approach & Acclimatization

We’ll meet in the city and head into the mountains together. The journey to our base camp takes 3–4 hours.

Depending on our energy levels and available time, we may take a short excursion to higher ground for acclimatization.

Day 2: Trek to Fizkulturnik Summit

We’ll start early (around 6:00–7:00 AM) for a scenic ascent to the top.

Day 3: Almaty Peak Day and return to the city

Another early start as we take on the highlight of the trip—reaching the pinnacle of one of the most stunning mountains in the area.
